The Future of Maine

Over the past 25 years, the nonprofit, 501(c)(3), Maine College Circle, has brought together a circle of individuals, businesses, schools, colleges, and civic organizations who care about the future of rural Maine communities. Aspirations, particularly early aspirations, are the critical and foundational blocks to building a brighter future. Over these years, through our work and research, oddly enough, we have learned that grades 4 - 6 are the pivotal aspirational years for rural Maine students. And, aspirations are built on information and on support from those around you.

Each year, Maine College Circle talks with over 2500 rural Maine elementary and middle school students and awards over 2500 Future of Maine College Aspirations Scholarships. We give them the information they need to build their aspirations. It is inspiring for us to see the huge potential within these students -- potential that we must nurture. And, the students have great fun coming to understand their opportunities in education and beyond. We are convinced that this work is critical to the future of Maine.

The keys to a brighter future in rural Maine communities will not be found elsewhere. That is why we must work to empower the youth of rural Maine to build a brighter future for themselves . . . and for their communities.
